Bibliography Search Tips

The text fields can contain any number of words and Boolean operators.

Example: levee OR dam AND failure NOT natural disaster

Multiple words separated with spaces form phrases. In the example, natural disaster is a phrase. If you were searching the abstract, any references containing the phrase natural disaster would be excluded.

The Boolean operators AND, OR, and NOT can be used to combine words and phrases.

Operator Example Result
AND dam AND failure Returns all references containing ‘dam’ and ‘failure’ in the associated field.
OR levee OR dam Returns all references containing ‘levee’ or ‘dam’ in the associated field.
NOT failure NOT natural disaster Returns all references containing ‘failure,’ but not the phrase ‘natural disaster’ in the associated field.
